Flex That Muscle!
One thing that Jesus emphasized was that we be vigilant. It's kind of human nature to push toward a desired result, and quit after we attain it. However, the enemy doesn't ever stop pushing us. He is completely focused on stealing our joy and interfering in our relationship with God. He longs to take our attention off of God, that we might stumble and fall into sin and separation from God's Spirit. We can't really be separated, but we can enter into darkness, such that we believe He has departed, even though He has not. We then need to rediscover truth to shed light on us.
So, once we have victory, we must be vigilant in daily protecting the ground we've taken, lest the enemy come and recapture his post. John 5:14 says, "Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, 'See you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you'." In war, if an enemy is beat, he will retreat, regroup, gather more troops, and have a detailed plan on how to take back what was lost. Once we've won, we've won. The devil can not take back that land, unless we take for granted that he won't come back. If we do become captured and lose ground, it will be under a stronger hold, and escape will be very difficult, let alone retaking the post from the enemy. But with God, all things are possible.
We must never give up hope. We must never quit fighting. Be vigilant. Hold fast to scripture and the words God has written upon your heart. Keep watch at the fences. Pray always. God will come to our rescue. He will come through our weakness, in strength, and beat back the enemy. We must live in the light of God's love, lest we begin to despair at the darkness of our times.
