Maunday Thursday

Today is Maunday Thursday. It is the day that we recognize Jesus eating the Last Supper with His disciples. It is the night that Judas betrayed Jesus to the priests. Jesus, even as God, had a difficult time with the coming fulfillment of His purpose. He felt every blow, the sting of betrayal, each lash as the cat-o-nine tails ripped away his flesh. He could taste His blood running down His throat, not to mention the pain af the crucifixion, and the worst of all, His separation from God, as He took our sins upon Himself. It's true He was overcome with grief. Matthew 26:39 & 42- "He went forward a little and fell downward on the ground, and prayed, 'My Father! If it is possible, let this cup be taken away from Me, but I want your will not mine.' " "Again He left them and prayed, 'My Father! If this cup cannot go away until I drink it all, your will be done.' " If He understood what was awaiting him, why did He go through with it? Because it was the Father's will. It was always the Father's will. This is what Jesus truly desired. Matthew 26:56- "But this is all happening to fulfill the words of the prophets as recorded in the scriptures." They had to beat Him like that before they ever crucified Him? Isaiah 52:15- "They shall see my Servant beaten and bloodied, so disfigured one would scarcely know it was a person standing there. So shall He cleanse many nations." He had to fulfill these prophesies so that there was no doubt that Jesus was the Messiah, God's only Son. For those of us in the know, it is a somber day. Let us reflect upon our Lord and His anticipation toward His passion.
